There is need for time- in everything people do, and after every human tragedy, there is need for recovery, which takes,of course, some time. It has been nearly a week, since hurricane Ike splashed into to calm everyday living of Texas people. Newspapers are full of tragic views, full of humans´ tragedy, but meantime, people start to return to their houses. Some of them come to see the ruins and naked walls not remainding their living netted with memories. Some of them after that return to their shelters, or start to find a new place for living.

"The city of Galveston is not in ruins," said Lyda Ann Thomas, Mayor on Thursday. Maybe, some of the citizens would not agree with her. The life starts to return to its old days, but just really slowly. There is some power for the only hospital, but maybe not enough. Cell phones coverage is still pure, but is continuously improving, and this should also help to communicate between the crew helping to recover. City manager Steve LeBlanc says that their water is still bleeding.

"By staying away and being patient, you are making it possible for us to get you home in a week or so, instead of the months it would take if the city's infrastructure were more overwhelmed at this point," Thomas said, while Galveston Island remained still closed.

Center Point Energy has restored power to nearly 900, 000 homes in Galveston, so now, more people are with energy than without. Statewide more than 1.5 million still remains without this power.

Ike´s statistic is now on the number of 56 deaths, 22 of them are from Texas, but officials warn the final number could increase. During the hurricane, at least 49 of the more than 3,800 offshore oil production platforms were destroyed- fortunately, this shouldn´t impact lot, it is just a tiny percentage.

Je potreba času- a to vo všetkom, čo ľudia robia, a po každej ľudskej tragédii alebo katastrofe, je treba čas na zotavenie. Je to už skoro týžden, čo hurikán Ike zaútočil do pokojného každodenného sveta a žitia obyvatelov Texasu. Noviny sú plné tragických obrázkov, plné tragických ľudských osudov, zatialčo sa ľudia snažia pomaly vracať do svojich domov. Mnohí z nich prídu aby videli rujny a holé steny ničímnepripomínajúce ich žitie spletené zo spomienkami. Manažér mesta Steve LeBlanc hovorí, že s vodou sú na tom stále biedne.


“ Tým, že zostanete v ústraní a budete trpezlivý, umožňujete nám, aby sme vás dostali domov za týžden, namiesto mesiaca, ktorý by to trvalo, ak by infraštruktúra mesta bola viac preplnená a zaťažená v tomto mieste,” povedala Thomasová, kým samotný ostrov galvestonu zostáva zatvorený.

Energetická stanica už obnovila energiu v takmer 900.000 domácnostiach v Galvestone, takže teraz viac ľudí už elektrini má, ako nemá. Bez energie však zostáva takmer 1.5 miliona domácností po celom štáte Texas.

Fast eine Woche ist vergangen, seit Hurrikan Ike ins alltägliche Leben von Einwohnern in Texas reingestürmt war. Zeitungen sind voll von traurigen Zeilen, voll von der mesnchlichen Tragödie. Mittlererweile aber beginnen die Menschen, in ihre Häuser zurückzukehren. Einige von ihnen kommen, nur um verbliebene Ruinen und nackte Wände zu sehen, die an ihr mit Erinnerungen verbundene Leben erinnern. Einige von denen gehen dann zurück in die Notunterkünfte oder fangen an, einen neuen Lebensort zu suchen.

"Die Stadt Galveston ist nicht in Ruinen," sagte am Donnerstag Lyda Ann Thomas, Bürgermeisterin. Möglicherweise wären einige Bürger mit ihrer Behauptung nicht einverstanden. Hurrikane schlagen wieder zu. Der zurzeit am meisten beobachtete und sogar gefährlichste ist der Hurrikan Ike, der durch die niedrig gelegene Insel Kuba raste und sie verwüstete. Er beschädigte Häuser, brachte noch mehr Wasser (von starken Regenfällen) in bereits wassergesättigte Gemeinden auf Haiti mit, wo aus diesem Grund 48 Menschen ums Leben gekommen sind.

Wegen Ike mussten tausende Menschen evakuiiert und in höheren Lagen auf Kuba und den Bahama-Inseln in Sicherheit gebracht werden. In Florida wurde der Schlag des Hurrikans am Dienstag befürchtet.

Wie erwähnt, wurde auch Haiti davon betroffen, wo Ike zumindest 48 Menschen tötete. Diese Zahl trug zu der Totalanzahl von Todesopfern (306) bei, die den Tod innerhalb eines Monats in vier tropischen Stürmen gefunden haben. Auf ein paar anderen Inseln hat sich der wildstärkste Wind noch nicht beruhigt, daher ist es noch vielzu früh vorherzusagen, wie es dort mit Todesopfern ausschauen wird.

Laut Janice McKinney war die Great Inagua Island, eine der Bahama-Inseln, vom Hurrikan ernsthaft betroffen, der so stark war, dass er das Sperrholz von den Fenstern einer Kirche niederriss, die die Notunterkunft für ungefähr 50 Menschen darstellte.

Reservepolizeioffizier Henry Nixon aus einer anderen Notunterkunft auf der Great Inagua, wo sich ca 85 Menschen verstecken, sagte: "Alles, was wir machen können, ist uns zu verstecken und beten."

Auf der Insel Great Inagua leben ungefähr 1000 Eonwohner und 50 000 westindische Flamingos, die die weltweit größte Brutkolonie darstellen. Biologen befürchten, dass der unikate Lebensraum der Flamingos nach dem Strum zerstört sein könnte.

Greg Butcher, Direktor für Vogelschutz bei der Nationalen Audubongesellschaft, sagte: "Es ist möglich, dass das Habitat nicht mehr wirklich ersetzt werden kann und die Vögel keinen anderen geeigneten Ort finden können werden. Das könnte eine bedeutende Senkung der Anzahl von Flamingos heißen."

Zum ersten Mal hat KFC die handgeschriebene Rezeptur mit 11 Kräutern und Gewürzen von Colonel Harland Sanders aif einen anderen Ort gebracht. Dieser gelbe Zettel enthält eines der berühmtesten Firmengeheimnissen im ganzen Land.

Trotz der hohen Sicherheitsstufe, durch die sich diese Operation auszeichnete, sagte der Top-Geschäftsführer, er sei total nervös gewesen.

KFC-Präsident Roger Eaton sagte: "Ich will nicht der Präsident sein, der die Rezeptur verliert. Stellen Sie sich nur vor, wie schrecklich es wäre."

KFC legte die Rezeptur in eine gesperrte Box, die mittels Handschellen mit Sicherheitsexperten Bo Dietl verbunden war. Dietl fuhr dann im aufgepanzerten Auto, das in Begleitung von Polizeieskorte verschwand. Zurzeit wird die Rezeptur auf einem geheimen Ort aufbewahrt.

Nur zwei Firmengeschäftsführer kennen die Originalrezeptur und niemand kennt ihre Namen. Die Zutaten werden von vielen Lieferanten hergestellt und angemischt, jeder kennt aber nur einen Teil der Gesamtrezeptur.

Seit mehr als 20 Jahren war die Rezeptur in einem Firmentresor mit zwei Kombinationsschlössen versteckt.

Viele haben versucht, eine Kopie der Rezeptur zu machen, keinem ist es aber gelungen. Ab und zu taucht jemand auf, der behauptet, er hätte eine Kopie der Mischung von Sanders.

Sanders erfand die Rezeptur 1940 in einem kleinen Restaurant in Kentucky und in den frühen 50-er Jahren gründete er die KFC-Kette.

Restaurantanalytiker Larry Miller sagte, die Rezeptur "ist ein Teil des wichtigen Markenimage, das hilft, KFC-Produkte von anderen zu unterscheiden."

2007 hatte KFC auf der ganzen Welt 14 892 Filialen. Die Kette hat besonders großen Erfolg in der Übersee, vor allem in China. Im Gegensatz dazu ist es in den USA zurzeit ein bisschen mühsam, weil dort die Gesellschaft gesundheitsbewusster geworden ist.

Chris Cantell Discusses US News: Officials order Ike-scarred residents to leave by Radka Konkolova

The East coast of the United States is completely damaged. The most stricken area is that which is close to Gulf of Mexico. This last tropical storm went the same way as the first September’s hurricane, Gustav did. Ike hit Texas and towns of Houston, New Orleans and some other towns and cause huge damages.

Hurricane Ike has been very strong, even stronger than Gustav and other forecasted hurricanes. The wind during this blew with the speed of 180 km/h and caused waves of 18 inches’ high. This must have been something really savage and cruel. This and worries about peoples’ lives and possessions was the reason why at least one million residents of this area were evacuated in order to keep in safety. Unfortunately, there were some victims. It seems to me there is no house or other stabile building all around. They were either damaged and destroyed by strong wind and storm or flooded away by heavy rain and floods.

Some people were even confinement under the debris of their houses and stay some time without clean water and food. This was dangerous for some groups of people, for example for children, old people, patients, for example for diabetics. Now these areas belong to rescuers’ and firemen’ hands who are trying to find people under the remains and to help survivors who stayed there during the hurricane hit. Those were usually old people who have never been anywhere else except of their homes. So rescuers must provide that every man gets drink water, some food, blankets and ice they can demand to. They have also built some shelters where people can spend time or get something to drink and eat.

According to some news, there have been many people injured and some of them unfortunately killed by this element. Approximately 41 people are dead. President George Bush has had his speech and has asked the whole America and world to donate these people and help them this way to build and rebuild their new homes and lives again. Hopefully, they will pass this exam. I think all of them wish that Ike was the last catastrophe in their lives...

Federals examining the fatal disaster by Magdalena Rosova

According to federal investigators audio recordings from a commuter train which collided on Friday and killed 25 people are missing required safety checks between engineer and the conductor.

The recordings showed even though the engineer and conductor called out and confirmed light signals along the track, they did not do so with the two lights the train passed before the wreck.

The commuter train was heading from downtown Los Angeles to Ventura County and failed to stop at the final red signal what forced the train onto a track where freight train was traveling in the opposite direction.

Experts are also planning to investigate the cell phone records of engineer, who died in the crash, and two teenagers, who said they had received a text message from the engineer a moment before the accident.

The Friday crash was the worst rail disaster in 15 years in USA. 25 people were killed and 135 were injured, many of them critically.

Kitty Higgins from National Transport Safety Board said conductor and engineer had not called out signals to each other as they had been required. On the other hand she also admitted the possibility that the train may have entered a dead zone where the recording was interrupted. Experts will examine the truth soon.

Anyway, she repeated that obeying signals on the track was an engineer’s duty.

Higgins also said the disaster could have been prevented with a technology called Positive Train Control which stops a train when it disobeys a signal.

Idúci vlak smeroval z centra Los Angeles do Ventura County a nanešťastie zlyhal, keď nezastavil na červenom signály, čo ho presunulo na trať, na ktorej šiel práve opačným smerom nákladný vlak.

Hurikán Ike bol veľmi silný, dokonca silnejší ako Gustáv a ostatné predpovedané hurikány. Počas neho vietor dosiahol rýchlosť 180 kilometrov za hodinu a spôsobil vlny vysoké okolo šestnástich metrov. Toto a tiež obavy ľudí o svoje životy a majetok, bolo dôvodom, prečo bolo minimálne milión obyvateľov evakuovaných z tejto oblasti do bezpečia. Nanešťastie ale bolo aj niekoľko obetí. Zdá sa mi, že nikde naokolo nestojí žiaden dom ani iná stabilná budova. Tieto boli buď poškodené a zničené silným vetrom a búrkou alebo odplavené vďaka hustému dažďu a povodniam.

Niektorí ľudia boli dokonca nejaký čas uväznení pod troskami svojich domov bez jedla a pitnej vody. Toto bolo pre niektoré skupiny ľudí veľmi nebezpečné, zvlášť pre deti, starých a chorých ľudí, napríklad diabetikov. Teraz tieto oblasti patria do rúk záchranárov a hasičov, ktorí sa v týchto chvíľach snažia nájsť ľudí pod troskami domov a budov a pomáhajú preživším, ktorí sa na týchto miestach nachádzali, keď Ike udrel. Jednalo sa poväčšine o starších ľudí, ktorí nikdy neboli preč z domu. Takže záchranári musia zabezpečiť, aby každý človek dostal pitnú vodu, nejaké jedlo, deku a ľad, na ktoré majú nárok. Dúfajme, že túto skúšku zložia. Myslím si, že každý z nich si želá, aby Ike bol posledným nešťastím v ich životoch...

Rescue for Ike´s holdouts by Silvia Szarkova

Hundreds of holdouts denied the rescue although they were left to see the first dangerous waves of hurricane Ike- they were left on their own and they stayed at their houses watching their pets and cattle. Fortunately, there are many people to help them, if they will have intention to be rescued- National Guard trucks decided to help to all people like this- and went with a convoy to this small cattle town- Hackberry in Louisiana- which have been heavily devastated by hurricane Ike.

The convoy of National Guards was led by Louisiana Dept. of Wildlife airboats and contained also Cajun special flat- bottomed boats. It was a dangerous mission, they had to fight winds left after Ike with stamina, floods to reach these holdouts and farmers- but maybe the toughest thing was to rescue someone with no intention to leave his home.

"About 300 stayed in Hackberry," said confused and irritated Robert Swire, Cameron Parish sheriff's deputy. He had no idea why they denied to left when saw the danger. "They shouldn't have done that," he added.

On its way, hurricane Ike left behind devastated Galveston and Houston high-rises and about 5 million of people without power. It will take about two weeks to mend the power. Some 2.3 million people were evacuated in Texas and Louisiana, but about 100, 000 refused evacuation along the whole 200-mile danger zone.

By Sunday, Ike had been categorized a grade lower- just a tropical depression instead of Category 2 hurricane. Sergeant Peter Legle, former Marine Corps officer, said of those who voluntary decided to stay at their homes: "These are the most self-sufficient people in the country. It's frustrating sometimes, but I understand where they're coming from," he said.
After a one-day action of rescueing them, lot of them still decided to not leave their homes. Any attempts ended up on Sunday morning as rescuers went back to their work. Hope, those who were hasitating won´t be sorry.

Stovky vytrvalcov odmietli záchranu a to aj napriek tomu, že boli doslova ponechaní aby videli prvé nebezpečné a ničivé vlny hurikánu Ike- boli ponechaní sami na seba a zostali vo svojich domoch starajuc sa o svoje domace zvierata a dobytok. Našťastie, existuje mnoho ľudí, ktorý by im pomohli- avšak keby chceli byť zachránení- Národná Garda sa rozhodla pomúcť týmto ľudom a spolu s komvojom šla do tohto farmarskeho mestečka- Hackberry v Luisiane- ktoré je ťažko zdevastovane po ničivim hurikane Ike.

Tento konvoj Národnej gardy bol vedený člny z Luisianského oddelenia Divokého života a obsajňhoval tiež špecialnu jednotku Cajun- veľkú loď s rozšíreným zadkom. Bola to nebezpečná misia, muesli bojovať s vetrami, ktoé po sebe zanechal vytrvalý Ike, záplavami, aby sa dostali k týmto vytrvalcom a farmárom- ale najťažšia vec bola zachrániť niekho, kto absolútne nechcel opustiť svoj dom.

Los huracanes golpean otra vez. Ahora uno de los más observados, y aún los más peligrosos es el huracán Ike, que rugió a través de la cadena baja de las islas y golpeó Cuba. Dieser Monat war für Menschen, die an der Ostküste der Vereinigten Staaten leben, sehr unangenehm. Aufgrund von Klimaänderungen und Ozeanströmen entwickelten sich mehrere Hurrikane und tropische Stürme, die in diesen Gebieten zugeschlagen haben. Und es ist noch nicht das Ende. Hurrikan Gustav, der als der stärkste und größte von allen bezeichnet worden war, raste zum Glück nur vorbei, mittlererweile warten aber andere auf ihre Zeit.

Der zurzeit am meisten gefürchtete tropische Sturm richtet sich auf Texas und ist bereits sehr nahe den Küstengebieten. Sein Name ist Ike und den Vorhersagen nach sollte er noch stärker als Gustav werden. Die Windgeschwindigkeit sollte angeblich 131 mph erreichen, was der Angst einflößenden Stufe 4 oder möglicherweise 5 entspricht. Jetzt schon ist er sehr stark und innerhalb der nächsten Tage soll er noch an Stärke gewinnen. Am stärksten soll der Hurrikan am Sonntag in der Früh zuschlagen. Daher werden nun vier Gemeinden in der Umgebung von Houston pflichtmäßig oder freiwillig ins Landesinnere evakuiiert. Behörden haben angeordnet, schwache, ältere, schwächliche und chronisch kranke Menschen an sichere Orte zu bringen, an die sie in Bussen transportiert wurden. Andere ungefähr Million Menschen wurden gewarnt und aufgefordert, sich an einem sicheren Ort vor diesem Naturelement zu verstecken.

Dieser starke tropische Sturm sammelte die Energie aus den warmen Gewässern des Mexiko-Golfes. Er wird sehr gefährlich und die Leute haben Angst davor. Laut Vorhersagen soll er die Gebiete zwischen den Städten Houston und Corpus Christi am meisten betreffen. Gerade im erwähnten Gebiet findet man die größte Dichte an Erdölraffinerien, die ungefähr ein Viertel der amerikanischen Gesamterdölproduktion bedecken. Wenn sie also von Ike beschädigt oder komplett zerstört werden, wird das nicht nur ein Problem für das eine Gebiet oder für Amerika sein, sondern für die ganze Welt. Und dieses Szenario könnte einen weiteren Anstieg der Spritpreise verursachen.

Hurrikan Ike würde nach dem Schlag in Texas auch Kuba betreffen. Das kubanische Volk hatte eigentlich keine Zeit, sich von dem vorigen Schlag eines anderen Hurrikans zu erholen. Nachdem dieser Sturm vorbei sein wird, werden sie hoffentlich von solchen Katastrophen endlich Ruhe haben...

Tento mesiac bol pre ľudí žijúcich na východnom pobreží Spojených štátov veľmi nepríjemný. Vďaka klimatickým zmenám a morským prúdom boli tieto oblasti zasiahnuté viacerými hurikánmi a tropickými búrkami a to ešte nie je koniec sezóny. Hurikán Gustav, prvý veľký a veľmi silný hurikán, našťastie nezanechal väčšie škody, zatiaľ sa ale rozvinuli ďalšie.

Momentálne najobávanejšia tropická búrka sa rúti na Texas a už sa nachádza v blízkosti pobrežných oblastí. Volá sa Ike a podľa predpovedí má byť silnejší ako Gustav. Očakáva sa, že rýchlosť vetra dosiahne 131 metrov za sekundu, čo zodpovedá kategórii 4 alebo možno 5. Už teraz je veľmi silný, v rámci ďalších pár dní by mal ešte zosilnieť. Najsilnejšie by mal udrieť v nedeľu v ranných hodinách. U tohto dôvodu sú štyri okresy v okolí Houstonu povinne a dobrovoľne evakuované smerom do vnútrozemia. Úrady nariadili evakuovať slabých, starších a chronicky chorých ľudí a dopraviť ich autobusmi na bezpečné miesta vo vnútrozemí. Ďalších približne milión ľudí bolo varovanýh, aby sa pred týmto prírodným živlom ukryli na bezpečnom mieste.

Táto tropická búrka zbierala energiu z teplých vôd Mexického zálivu. Má byť veľmi nebezpečná a ľudia z nej majú strach. Podľa predpovedí má najviac zasiahnuť oblasť medzi mestami Houston a Corpus Christi. V spomínanej oblasti sa nachádza najviac ropných rafinérií, ktoré produkujú približne štvrtinu celkovej americkej ropnej produkcie. Ak by ich teda Ike poškodil alebo úplne zničil, nebol by to problém len pre Ameriku a tú konkrétnu oblasť, ale aj pre celý svet. Ak by teno prípad nastal, spôsobilo by to ďalšie stúpanie cien pohonných hmôt.

Hurikán Ike má po Texase zasiahnuť aj Kubu. Obyvatelia Kuby nemali čas sa ani zotaviť z úderu predošlého hurikánu. Dúfajme, že keď tento hurikán prejde, budú mať konečne pokoj od podobných katastrof...

Hurricanes strike again. Now one of the most watched, or even most dangerous is hurricane is Ike, which roared across low-lying island and pushed down Cuba. It damaged homes, brought even more water (from rain) to waterlogged communities in Haiti, where 48 more people dies because of it.

Ike caused thousands of people’s evacuation to shelters or higher ground in Cuba or Bahamas. In Florida, people were worried that this hurricane could hit them on Tuesday.

But as mentioned, Haiti had trouble with it too, Ike killed there at least 48 people. This number adds up to total 306 deaths in four tropical storms in less than a month. As for the other islands, on some of them the strongest winds are still blowing, so it is too early to say what is with them in the case of deaths.

According to Janice McKinney, Bahamas’ Great Inagua Island was seriously hit by hurricane, which managed to peel plywood from the windows of a church, which was a shelter for approximately 50 people.

From another Great Inagua shelter, which is hiding about 85 people, reserve police officer Henry Nixon said that “All we can do is hunker down and pray.“

The island of Great Inagua has approximately 1,000 people and 50,000 West Indian flamingos, which is the largest breeding colony in the world. Biologist worried that the unique environment of the flamingos would be damaged after the storm.

KFC Recipe Temporarily Relocated by Magdalena Rosova

For the first time KFC has removed handwritten recipe of 11 herbs and spices of Colonel Harland Sanders. This yellowing sheet of paper contains one of the most famous corporate secrets of the country.

In spite of the tight security which followed the operation, the top executive said he was completely nervous.

KFC President Roger Eaton said "I don't want to be the president who loses the recipe. Imagine how terrifying that would be."

KFC placed the recipe in a lock box handcuffed to security expert Bo Dietl who traveled in armored car that disappeared with a police officers escort. Temporarily the recipe was relocated to a secret place.

Only two company executives know the original recipe and none knows their names. Many suppliers produce and blend ingredients but know only a part of the entire recipe.

For more than 20 years the recipe has been hidden in a company’s cabinet with two combination locks.

Many have tried to make a copy of the recipe, but no one managed to do so. Time to time someone claims he has a copy of Sanders creation as well.

Sanders developed the recipe in 1940 at his small restaurant in Kentucky and founded the KFC chain in the early 1950s.

A restaurant analyst, Larry Miller said the recipe „is part of that important brand image that helps differentiate the KFC product."

In 2007 KFC had 14,892 locations all over the world. The chain has strong sales overseas, especially in China. However they struggle in U.S. because of a more health-conscious public.

Myslím, že každému sa dostali do uší udalosti uplynulých dní. Mám na mysli dôsledky veľmi silnej tropickej búrky, ktorá sa prehnala východným pobrežím Spojených štátov. Hurikán Gustav nahnal ľuďom poriadny strach a z dôvodu bezpečnosti obyvateľov a zamedzenia stratám na životoch boli niektoré oblasti dokonca evakuované. Podľa môjho názoru to bola z tohto pohľadu celkom úspešná akcia. Pravdou ale zostáva, že búrka spôsobila mnohé škody. Napriek tomu sa evakuovaní obyvatelia môžu teraz vrátiť domov. Samozrejme tak môžu urobiť len v prípade, že ich domy neboli poškodené silným vetrom uplynulých dní.

Jeden element sa teda vyzúril a je preč. Ale podľa meteorologických predpovedí to ešte nie je koniec podobných silných búrok tohtoročnej jesene. Predpovede hovoria o ďalších troch silných búrkach, ktoré majú v rámci niekoľkých dní alebo mesiaca zasiahnuť pobrežia Ameriky. Podľa predpovedí majú byť tiež veľmi silné, kruté a divoké. Už dostali aj vlastné mená. To je znakom, že určite spôsobia vážne škody. Hanna, Ike a Josephine sú mená týchto búrok, ktoré majú byť jednými z najsilnejších a s veľkou pravdepodobnosťou zasiahnu niektoré pobrežné oblasti.

Každá podobná udalosť je spôsobená prúdením vzduchu a pohybom studených a teplých prúdov v oceánoch. Vzdušné masy sa obvykle premiešavajú, čo môže viesť k vzniku podobne silnej búrky. Zmes vzduchu je veľmi špecifická, niekedy sa totiž môže stať, že vietor, ktorý prichádza z rozličných smerov vo vysokých nadmorských výškach, dokáže vznikajúci hurikán oslabiť alebo prinajmenšom ho utlmí. Tentokrát sa ale nič podobné neudialo, poprípade bol tento vplyv príliš slabý a nemal žiaden dopad.

V tomto ročnom období z oblasti severnej Afriky sa každých pár dní presúva oblačnosť a prudké búrky smerom na západ. Z niektorých sa rozvinú tropické búrky a hurikány a niektoré sa proste rozplynú. Gustav, Hanna, Ike a Josephine tiež prešli rovnakým vývojovým procesom.

Svoj vrchol dosiahne táto hurikánová sezóna až v polovici septembra. Podľa predpovedí by do konca roka malo vzniknúť ešte približne 10 hurikánov. Ďalší vážny zásah hurikánom je predpovedaný na november, Vianoce by už mali byť pokojné.

Je samozrejmé, že Američania, hlavne tí, ktorí žijú na pobreží, žijú v týchto dňoch v strachu pred úderom hurikánu a pravdepodobne sú už pripravení na možnú evakuáciu. Dúfajme, že ďalšie búrky nebudú také zničujúce a nespôsobia žiadne ďalšie vážne straty. Nakoniec, veď uvidíme...

Menschen, die dem Hurrikan Gustav entflohen, zwangen am Mittwoch die Stadt, ihre Türe zu öffnen. Präsident Bush kam zurück zum Schauplatz einer der größten Niederlagen seiner Präsidentschaft, um die Verbesserung der Regierung aufzuzeigen, nachdem ihre Reaktion nach Katrina schrecklich gewesen war.

Diejenige, die sie entschieden, in die Stadt zurückzukehren sagten, wenn es dort sicher genug sei, um dort Rettungs- und Gesundheitspfleger hinzuschicken, könnten auch sie hingehen. Aber als sie nach Hause kamen, hatten zahntausende Menschen keinen Strom. Im ganzen Staat blieben nahezu 1,2 Millionen Haushälte ohne Stromversorgung und laut Behörden kann es einen ganzen Monat dauern, bis das Problem gelöst ist.

Diese Tatsache ist sehr kritisch vor allem für Schulen und auch für Geschäfte, die nicht wieder geöffnet werden können. Tankstellen können ohne Strom nicht betrieben werden. Krankenhäusern ist bereits der Treibstoff für Generatoren ausgegangen. Allerdings haben einige Orte keine Schwierigkeiten mit Stromversorgung, inklusive Superdome.

Nachdem Präsident Bush ein Notzentrum und das überflutete Bauerland besuchte, lobte er die Reaktion der Regierung auf die Katastrophe und bezeichnete sie als exzellent. Er forderte Stromversorgungsunternehmen aus der Nachbarschaft auf, mehrere Arbeitskräfte nach Louisiana zu schicken.

Die Regierung reagierte wesentlich anders als vor drei Jahren nach Katrina, wenn ca 1600 Menschen ums Leben gekommen waren. Damals wurde das Weiße Haus stark kritisiert, weil es zu spät eingeschritten wäre.

In den Tagen vor dem Hurrikan wurden nahezu 2 Millionen Einwohner von der Louisiana-Küste evakuiiert. Es gab nur 16 Todesopfer. Ungefähr 80 000 Menschen blieben in Schutzräumen in Louisiana. Die Stadt stellte auch Busse und Züge für 18 000 Menschen zur Verfügung, um aus der Stadt fliehen zu können. Fünf Personen wurden verhaftet, weil sie im leeren New Orleans Häuser plünderten.

Man muss leider bemerken, dass die Hurrikansaison 2008 noch überhaupt nicht vorbei ist.

New Orleans opens doors after Gustav by Magdalena Rosova

People who fled Hurricane Gustav forced the city to open its doors Wednesday. President Bush came back to the site of one of his biggest failures of his presidency to show that government has improved since terrible response to Katrina.

Those who decided to return to the city said if it was safe enough for repair crew and health care workers, they could go there as well. But as they got home, tens of thousands of people did not have power. Nearly 1.2 million homes were without electricity across the state and according to officials it can take a month to fix it.

This fact is very critical to schools which can not be reopened and for businesses too. Gas stations can not pump fuel without electricity and hospitals are run out of fuel for generators. However, some places did not loose power at all, including the Superdome.

President Bush praised the response of government to the disaster as excellent after he visited an emergency center and flooded-out farmland. He asked utility companies in neighborhood to send extra manpower to Louisiana.

The government responded significantly differently then three years ago to Katrina, when about 1,600 people died and White House faced critics for stepping in too late.

Nearly 2 million people were evacuated from Louisiana coast in the days before the hurricane. Only 16 people were killed. About 80,000 people stayed in shelters in Louisiana and city provided buses and trains for 18,00 people to flee from the city. Five people were arrested for looting in emptied New Orleans.

It is needed to note, that unfortunately, the 2008 hurricane season is far from over.

Ľudia, ktorí utiekli pred hurikánom Gustav, prinútili mesto, aby v stredu otvorilo svoje dvere. Prezident Bush sa opäť vrátil k jednému z najväčších zlyhaní svojej vlády a ukázal, že vláda sa zlepšila od čias tragickej odpovedi na Katrinu.

Tí, ktorí sa rozhodli vrátiť do mesta vraveli, že ak sa do mesta vracia tím opravujúci škody aj záchranný tím, návrat je dosť bezpeční aj pre nich. Avšak, keď sa dostali domov, desiatky tisíc ľudí zistilo, že nemajú elektrinu. Približne 1.2 miliónov domácností po celej krajine je bez elektriny a oprava môže trvať aj mesiac.

Tento fakt je veľmi kritický pre školy, ktoré tak nemôžu fungovať. Čerpacie stanice nemôžu bez elektriny tankovať benzín a nemocniciam už dochádza palivo pre generátory. Akokoľvek, niektoré miesta, ako napríklad Superdome, vôbec neprišli o elektrinu.

Po návšteve krízového centra a zaplavenej poľnohospodárskej pôde prezident Bush vychvaľoval excelentnú reakciu vlády na pohromu. Zároveň požiadal susedné štáty, aby poslali pracovnú silu do Louisiany.

Odpoveď vlády na hurikán bola výrazne iná ako tri roky dozadu na Katrinu, keď zomrelo približne 1600 ľudí a Biely dom čelil kritike za to, že zasiahol príliš neskoro.

A hurricane again, Gustav plows toward Caymans by Paulina Neshybova

Three years after hurricane Katrina appeared another hurricane. Now it is Gustav,who once again became hurricane on Friday as it moves towards Caymans. After that it continue towards the U.S. Gulf Coast and it was labled as a storm of category number 3.
In Carribean, Gustav have killed so far 71 people, and it expects to to cross Kuba and after that reach the Gulf of Mexiko by Sunday.
On Cayman islands the tourist were told to leave hotels,but those who did not were sheltered by the airport. The forecaster expect Gustav to hit most likely New Orleans, but it could as weel hit anywhere from Florida to Texas.
It could became a major hurricane when it raches the coast of Cuba. And meanwhile, another storm ar hurricane called Hanna should appear next week on Bahams. So for sure, around 80 percent of the oil production in the Gulf of mexico will be shut because of the storm. Hundreds of workers were evacuated from their platforms. The prices of oil therefore rose for the first time in last 43 days and their price could became $5 a gallon.
In Louisiana, president Bush declared emergency, so the government could help in the areas where it will be hit by Gustav.

GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands - Gustav sa stal znova hurikánom v piatok ako smeroval ku Kajmanským ostrovom, začiatok výtvoru, ktorý by ho mohol vziať k pobrežiu U.S. zálivu ako nebezpečná búrka 3tej kategórie tri roky po hurikáne Katrina.

The United States are coming over other disaster. Again. This country has got specific and significant geographical aspect because there are many types of climate. And this very reason can sometimes have very bad impact on the inhabitants. The changes of the air circulation and weather are relatively often. America has got continental as well as oceanic climate. And because every of them (climatic lines) is very specific sometimes very interesting circulations occur there, what can cause some specific problems. Of course, there can happen something similar also in other parts of the world, such as Europe or Africa, but they are not as often neither so intensive.

In upcountry the occurrence of tornados is quite often. It is savage and dangerous swirl of air formed in the funnel shape. But recently more redoubtable, more often and more destructive the tropical storms have been. There is formed relatively large number of something like that, but sometimes it is formed in such huge measure and cause many problems and usually great losses over human lives and their possessions.

Three years ago, the strongest and most savage hurricane stroke the state of Louisiana, mainly the town of New Orleans and its surrounding. That time the town was thoroughly damaged and many people died because of the element named hurricane Katrina and its great and savage strength.

Last days the situation was very similar to that one three years ago. People have been very afraid of it because it was predicted this storm would be stronger than Katrina three years ago was. Officials ordered evacuation from the most endangered areas, like New Orleans and several other towns of Louisiana. Fortunately hurricane Gustav has been not as strong as Katrina. Anyway, it let many damages on the places he passed through. Gustav has been really severe and savage. Many houses have been completely destroyed and the rest of them at least miss their roofs. The most of the trees are now lying on the ground with the roots in the air. It had to be really very unpleasant, fearful and stressful. Even about eight people died because of falling trees and strong storm. Other approximately 1 million people have stayed without electricity and power.

It seems to me there are still more and more similar catastrophes caused by the nature. But on the other hand it is probably because of humans’ activity, which is usually against the nature. Anyway, in my opinion people will get bigger respect in front of the nature. I think those Americans who survived Gustav or been evacuated, thank God and officials they are alive although they might loss any possession…
