I was never into politics too much, to be honest. I know few names, few faces, from time to time I read political news, but to tell the truth, policy is nothing more than farce for me. All is about actors and their way (better or worse) of acting, their ability to be convincing. Actors in the costumes (politics in the jackets) are playing game to entertain and satisfy us, but in real all they are doing are doing for themselves. They are saying that entering European Union is going to be a good step for us; they are saying that war in Iraq is necessary; they are saying they all are working hard to destroy corruption; they are saying!

Today, quite similar game is playing in the White House, or better say in connection with it, as Barack is not in yet. When I heard that Barack Obama is going to give position of secretary of state to his (former?) rival Hillary Rodham Clinton I was a bit disappointed. And even though I never tried to understand political things now I am trying, because I thought Obama could really bring a change to the United States. But instead of change he is going back?! He is giving this important post to Clinton who was during presidency campaigns saying lies and trying to sling mud at him? The woman who didn't save one bad word on him will be now standing next to him and smiling at us (I am saying "us" because I mean it). Is it some kind of voluntary self-torment to show people he can work even with his foes? Or is it another backstage deal? I really don't get it. Also the name of Bush's defense secretary & Robert Gates will not be changed and he will stay in his current post! Is it only me who is unpleasantly surprised? Is it only me for who are explanation such as "he is well-respected man" or "she is "deeply experienced" only attempts of self-justification? Well hard to say what the final version of Obama's Cabinet will look like, but one thing is sure & it is going to be a team of rivals.

According to the official statements released on Tuesday Defense Secretary Robert M Gates has agreed to continue to serve in the Cabinet of Barack Obama. It is quite a surprising situation for Gates to remain in the office because as we all know President-elect Barack Obama criticized actions and strategies of previous administration. One of Obama´s former transition advisors said that it was “99% certain” that Gates would serve as Defense Secretary under Obama for at least a year. "This is good for Obama becuase it lets him say that he has a Republican in his Cabinet, and also gives him instant credibility with the military," Politico's chief correspondent Mike Allen said. "Gates tells us he's excited about being able to finish some of what he started and to wind down in Iraq in a way that's consistent with how they've been running the surge.” Gates has been the head of the department since 2006 after he had to give up his post as a president of Texas A&M University and replace Donald Rumsfeld. Also the position of national security advisor has its candidate and it is Gen. James L. Jones, a retired Marine commandant. Both men bring years of experience to the Cabinet of Barack Obama who will certainly learn a lot from them about foreign policy. Partnership with Gates would be of high value to Obama who wants to remove US troops from Iraq. As there has been an agreement recently between US and Iraqi officials the withdrawal of the troops seems to be in sight finally and the pressure put on Obama in this matter is easing. "The real issue is: Who does Gates keep, and does Obama have a say in what team is there," the official said. Many assume that Gates remaining in the office is the right move for the continuity and stability.

Plus de 175.000 combattants américains qui ont été affectés par les toxines chimiques dans la Guerre du Golfe en 1991 souffrent du syndrome de la guerre du Golfe qui est considéré comme une maladie légitime, selon un rapport édité lundi.
Le rapport a pu aider aux vétérans à recevoir l'appui du gouvernement pour le traitement de leurs maladies neurologiques, telles que le cancer de cerveau ou les scléroses multiples.
Le Comité consultatif de recherches sur des maladies de Veterans de la Guerre du Golfe, qui avait étudié le problème depuis 2002, a dit que la maladie de la Guerre du Golfe est différente du choc mental souffert par des vétérans dans d'autres guerres.
Le comité a conseillé au gouvernement qu'il devrait financer la recherche sur la santé de veterans de la Guerre du Golfe au moins à 60 millions de dollars par an. Le comité a dit que c'est le devoir de l'état et les vétérans ont attendu depuis longtemps l'aide.

There were so many people thinking about the last day on the Earth, and many of them were even trying to determine the exact day, when the apocalypse will come. Probably the most famous was Nostradamus, who predicted that December 21st in 2012 will be that day. His prognosis was: our Earth will be destroyed by comet, which is also responsible for such events as great flood (when only Noe and his family with "few" pieces of animals were saved), or the beginning of Ice age. Even though I am always quite fascinated by all these predictions, I think I am a nonbeliever, especially in these a bit overblown concepts. I don't know if there is even a possibility to determine a date of apocalypse, I think we are some kind of apocalypse for the Earth. I think we are going to destroy it by ourselves and it won't be at one day, but it will last years, till we finally ruin everything.
Just look at the situation as it is now & floods, earthquakes, hurricanes, and fires & all so destructing, so dangerous. Week ago it was a problem in Cuba with hurricane, two weeks ago Pakistan had to face another earthquake, and now California is burning. Fire destroyed more than 800 houses and more than 34 square miles have burned. Fire also caused that Los Angeles lies in opaque sky, smoke is smelled everywhere and air quality is just so bad, that marathon in suburban Pasadena had to be canceled. As we know apocalypse will not destroy only poor ones, but the whole world will be lying in the dust: in Los Angeles County were destroyed also multimillion-dollar homes in Diamond Bar. I am not trying to say that apocalypse is already here. All I want to say is that we shouldn't always and entirely believe in words of some fortune teller, but we should start to think how we could protect us and our Earth from today's pogroms and catastrophes. And maybe then none apocalypse will come!

Daher organisieren die Parkwächter gemeinsame Sammelaktionen, um Plastik- und Stahlstücke zu sammeln, die dann in großen Plastiksäcken weggeworfen werden. Mehrere Leute reichten eine helfende Hand und reinigen den Strand, sie bauten sich sogar eine Hütte auf. In dieser schweren Situation halten diese Leute zusammen und bemühen sich, gemeinsam die Schäden zu beseitigen. Bravo!

When Mother Nature gets upset we should tremble in fear. Whatever we create in a lifetime, she can destroy in an instant through calamities like hurricanes. For instance, Hurricane Ike took place last week and destroyed numerous properties, the effects you can still see now, while people are still declared missing. The Gulf of Mexico currents brought tons of debris hundreds of miles from the upper Texas to Padre Island.
The area coast just north of the Mexican border where the debris which includes parts of roofs, refrigerators, loveseats, TVs, was brought is a national park, a beach where birds and other animals live. Furthermore Kemp's Ridley endangered turtle that nests there would have a hard time in digging their nests. For the wildlife workers this raises serious concerns. About 2,970 industrial-size trashbags were filled with the junk, while farther south at Cameron County's South Padre Island beaches, seven 30-cubic yard recycle bins also got filled. Cleaning up is the responsibility of the feds. However, the fact that local governments were affected too by the Hurricane, made them ask for cleanup reimbursement from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. So, it is good to hold the power.
Besides the turtles, the birds could be in trouble because they might mistake food with the small pieces of plastic. Therefore park rangers have began expeditions in order to collect the plastic and steel barrels, and then it follows big floating plastic bins. Some people decided to give a hand of help and clean the beach, they even made a shack. In trouble people get together and try to fix the mistakes by joining hands. Bravo to them!

This month has been very unpleasant for people living on the East coasts of the United States. Thanks climatic changes and sea streams several hurricanes and tropical storms hitting that areas occurred and it is not yet the end of them. Hurricane Gustav what had been the first huge and very strength one fortunately passed away but meanwhile other ones have taken place.

Currently the most redoubtable tropical storm is going through Texas and its nearby states ashore. Its name is Ike and according to the forecast it will be stronger than Gustav was. Supposedly the wind will blow at speed of 131 mph what means the fearsome Category 4 of possible 5. It is already very strength but it will get stronger within few days. The strongest hit is predicted to come on early Saturday. So four counties surrounding Houston is now being mandatory or voluntary evacuated inlands. Officials have ordered to evacuate frail, elderly, weak and chronically ill people to the safe places inlands and they were put aboard the buses. Other approximately million people were warned to hide in some safe place over this element.

This strong tropical storm has been drawing the energy by warm waters from Gulf of Mexico. It will be very dangerous and people are afraid of it. It is predicted it will hit the area between towns of Houston and Corpus Christi the most. In that very area there is the biggest density of oil refineries which produce about a quarter of American petrol production. So when Ike hit damage or completely destroy them, it will be a problem not only for that area or America but for the whole world, too. And this case could cause that gas will be rising again.

This hurricane Ike would after hitting Texas strike also Cuba. Cuban people haven’t had time to recover. But hopefully when they pass through this now, probably they will finally have rest after such catastrophes…

There is need for time- in everything people do, and after every human tragedy, there is need for recovery, which takes,of course, some time. It has been nearly a week, since hurricane Ike splashed into to calm everyday living of Texas people. Newspapers are full of tragic views, full of humans´ tragedy, but meantime, people start to return to their houses. Some of them come to see the ruins and naked walls not remainding their living netted with memories. Some of them after that return to their shelters, or start to find a new place for living.

"The city of Galveston is not in ruins," said Lyda Ann Thomas, Mayor on Thursday. Maybe, some of the citizens would not agree with her. The life starts to return to its old days, but just really slowly. There is some power for the only hospital, but maybe not enough. Cell phones coverage is still pure, but is continuously improving, and this should also help to communicate between the crew helping to recover. City manager Steve LeBlanc says that their water is still bleeding.

"By staying away and being patient, you are making it possible for us to get you home in a week or so, instead of the months it would take if the city's infrastructure were more overwhelmed at this point," Thomas said, while Galveston Island remained still closed.

Center Point Energy has restored power to nearly 900, 000 homes in Galveston, so now, more people are with energy than without. Statewide more than 1.5 million still remains without this power.

Ike´s statistic is now on the number of 56 deaths, 22 of them are from Texas, but officials warn the final number could increase. During the hurricane, at least 49 of the more than 3,800 offshore oil production platforms were destroyed- fortunately, this shouldn´t impact lot, it is just a tiny percentage.

„Mesto Galveston nie je v rujnách, “ povedala Lyda Ann Thomas, primátorka vo štvrtok. Možno by s ňou niektorý obyvatelia nesúhlasili. Život sa začina vracať do starých koľají, no v skutočnosti len veľmi pomaly. Elektrina funguje v tej jedinej nemocnici ktorá tam je, ale možno nie na dosť dlho. Pokrytie mobilných telefónov je biedne, ale neustále sa zlepšuje a malo by tiež pomôcť komunikoviu medzi jednotlivými členmi záchrannej posádky. Manažér mesta Steve LeBlanc hovorí, že s vodou sú na tom stále biedne.


“ Tým, že zostanete v ústraní a budete trpezlivý, umožňujete nám, aby sme vás dostali domov za týžden, namiesto mesiaca, ktorý by to trvalo, ak by infraštruktúra mesta bola viac preplnená a zaťažená v tomto mieste,” povedala Thomasová, kým samotný ostrov galvestonu zostáva zatvorený.

Energetická stanica už obnovila energiu v takmer 900.000 domácnostiach v Galvestone, takže teraz viac ľudí už elektrini má, ako nemá. Bez energie však zostáva takmer 1.5 miliona domácností po celom štáte Texas.

Ikeva štatistika je teraz na čísle 56 mrtvych, z toho 22 ich pochádza z Texasu, ale úradníci upozorňujú, že to ešte nie je konečné číslo- to može ešte vzrást. Počas hurikánu aspon 49 z 3800 mimopobrežných vrtných veži bolo zničených- našťastie, to by nemalo vážne ohroziť ekonomiky, pretože to je len úlomok z produkcie.
