The oil from damaged deepwater well started to leak on Sunday and is now approaching US coastline and threatening its inhabitants. Barack Obama who visited the affected US Gulf coastline that day also pledged full federal support to the region even though he considers British Petroleum as fully responsible for this “massive and potentially unprecedented environmental disaster.” As “British Petroleum is responsible for this leak” they are also responsible for cleaning which therefore must be paid by them. The fear is justified as not only environment, but also economy and livelihoods of thousands of Americans could be seriously damaged and jeopardized! . Louisiana makes the biggest money on tourist industry and recreational fishing industry, which commercial cost them $2.4 billion a year. Although US government weather agency administrator Jane Lubchenco said “there should be no health risk in seafood currently in the marketplace”, the risk is actually here all the time. Maybe the fishes are not contaminated so far, but fishermen and their future are as southerly winds has turned thickest part of the sprawling slick northward. Coastal communities that were struggling on 2005 after Hurricane Katrina now have to face another threat said Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal. But the words and performed manifestation of solidarity is not what local fishermen want and need. They need their sea to be cleaned as soon as possible. It is their livelihood and the bills must be paid. British Petroleum informed it will pay volunteers 10 dollars an hour, contractors promised 18 dollars an hour to support shoreline clean up. But! it will take some time till the life is as it used to be befo! re.
