Joe the Politician Plumber by Claudia Sonea

From rags to riches, Samuel Wurzelbacher went from being a middle-class American to winning a seat in the local Republican Party committee in Ohio's Lucas County. He became a sensation in 2008 after meeting with Obama in his neighbourhood and raising questions about how the plan of the then presidential candidate would affect small businesses. Obama and McCain transformed Wurzelbacher into "Joe the Plumber" and used him as a metaphor for middle-class Americans during their presidential debate. Whether, he was not been paid to be there when Obama made is scheduled visit or not, it has no importance whatsoever as Joe the P! lumber never expressed his support towards either of the candidates. Furthermore, he did not launch into politics, nor did he get rich over night. Indeed, the meeting with Obama, made Joe’s life better by having record deals on advertising and TV appearances. Most likely, he was just asking hypothetical question about small businesses and how they would get affected by Obama’s tax plan. The media nonetheless hunt every dirty secret in his life trying to show that there’s no way Wurzelbacher could have had the money to buy a business. It’s good that now Obama is looking down on the same media that got him the presidential chair. The events that took place after the controversial meeting are a disgrace and a stain of shame on the great democracy proclaimed by the Americans. Just because he dared to oppose the then-presidential candidate, Wurzelbacher was the target of multiple attacks coming from t! he media and from other supporters of Obama. His life was sear! ched for even the smallest secret that might discredit him and make him look bad. However, the fact that he finally managed to take advantage of the incident, shed a light of hope that the American dream is still alive and possible.
