Our planet is a gift we should learn to appreciate and cherish. However, people are carried away by the greed for money and power and usually they forgot how important is to take care of Earth. The responsibility falls mainly on the human activity like deforestation, the use of atomic weapons, etc. In the last year awareness on the matter increased and the sanctions are harsher. BP Plc, the third largest global energy company and the 4th largest company in the world, is the best example of how much one must pay for the damages inflicted upon the environment. After three leaks in an undersea Gulf of Mexic! o, the group now must indemnify all those who were affected, which would mean a cost of around several billion dollars. Furthermore, it has also fallen 6.4 percents on the U.K.’s FTSE 100 Erases 2010 Gains. In order to improve the public image of the multinational oil company, full resources to clean up the damages caused by the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Residents of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida will be compensated and the environment will be cleaned up. The management assured that all clean up will be supported them, but how will they be able to bring back those who lost their lives in the horrible incident? The good side of the spill is that awareness on the matter increased and the offshore drilling is now in people’s attention.
