Greed or Modesty?
by Barbora Misakova

When I woke up this morning I have noticed very short article in the newspapers about Tom Petters – an American businessman and the former CEO of Polaroid. On December 2, 2009 he was found guilty of mail fraud that made him $3.5 billion, but also sentenced him to 50 years in prison. Then the question what a man is able to do for money and power leads me to a short answer: anything. If it is worthy, I can hardly say. Sometimes is our desire stronger than our mind. But some of us know where to stop, or at least are posing like that. While friends of Secretary of State Hilary Clinton and even her own mother would like to see her as a Supreme Court justice, she is satisfi! ed as she is now. Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch, a senior Republican on the Judiciary Committee said Clinton would be an interesting person in the mix. Also Clinton’s long time adviser and pollster, Mark Penn thinks she would be a great justice. Even Dorothy Rodham, Clinton’s mother once said: “she always thought her daughter would be the first woman to serve on the Supreme Court.” But P. J. Corwley, Clinton’s spokesman said he is sure Clinton appreciates Sen. Hatch’s kind words and support of friends and family, but “she loves her present job and is not looking for another one.” I don’t want to question Clinton’s feeling of satisfaction connected with her present office, but why would a former presidential candidate be refusing such a position? Maybe there is more greed behind this mask of modesty!
