The essence of human happiness.
by Milota Sidorova
Sometimes you’ve got to feel the nearness. You’ve got to be close to the others. To be a part of something. Maybe just stand in the crowd and watch the parade going by. Realize that you are not alone. This feeling, called the social necessity is more important than the food, money and sometimes work experience. It’s so, because we go back to the start – man is a social being, coming from tribes and even now hiding something mystical within his soul. The consequences are visible even in our century. American people celebrated Thanksgiving Day recently and as this year, maybe more than anytime they felt they need to be overrun by euphoria, although for! only temporary period. All the feasts are meant to be like this. To forget and to remember. To forget on daily routine, problems and fears one keeps in his or her mind and to remember – there are the others, there is something special to focus on. People, feelings, thanks and simple ideas. Sometimes I ask whether we are happier than we were. Generally the living standard, despite the crisis is increasing. We can afford things our parents haven’t even dreamed of. But how do they make us happier, fuller? How do we communicate? What is the cost of our work? How much minutes a day we have just for ourselves? And how do we people know that we are alive? Americans celebrated Thanksgiving Day. Although I wish the happiness to every human being, I felt great sorrow while watching the parade. These people were not free and not happy. President made calls to majors serving in Afghanistan and Iraq to thank them for their courage and will. He thanked them for great inju! stice that became a legal mission. And for these calls politic! ians and media praised him. Even people did so. People were looking at the parade not knowing the money and energy costs of all this. Sad and anger. Feasts in such serious times come only as a great brainwash. It’s easily to forget of the context of our time, the needs of billions of hungry people squeezed by international corporations and political regimes and the needs and limits of our planet. It’s easy to show solidarity to our friends and families. It’s easy to stop thinking about the reality. I don’t take the right to be happy, I say, please concern every spoon of food that you eat, that you throw out, every useless mile you drive and ever unnecessary item you buy. It won’t make you happy in your heart. But every action you take, every spoon of food, liter of water you let just pass could make someone on the other side of the planet more than thankful. Human doesn’t need much to feel closer to the mankind.
