Obama asks kids to pay attention in school
by Magdalena Rosova
President Barack Obama said in his speech he expected great things from each one of the nation's schoolchildren. Obama asked children to fulfill their responsibilities saying that then there would be “the most dedicated teachers, the most supportive parents, and the best schools in the world.” Obama's remarks appeared on the White House's official Web page at midday Monday. Obama will deliver his talk from Wakefield High School in Arlington and the talk will be broadcast live on both the White House Web page and C-SPAN as well. Obama's talk seems to be controversial. Conservative people and organizations accused him of being too aggressive. Conservatives ask ! schools and parents to boycott the speech, they say the president wants only to promote a political agenda. White House officials said the accusations were silly. Obama wants to tell children to stay in school and work hard, thinking that is the right message for them. White House press secretary Robert Gibbs finds it sad that people are angry that the president wants to inspire children to work hard, to engage parents to be involved and to make sure that teachers continue to be the best in the world. Obama wants to tell kids that they need to spend time in their schools and pay attention to teachers, otherwise all the work of their parents and teachers won't matter. The president warns students that if they quit on school they quit on their country and added that the country needs their best effort to cope with competitive global economy. Obama says that education of children will decide about the future of the country. The president noted that his mother forced hi! m to study hard and now he is very thankful she did so. !
