Another shade of black...
by Barbora Misakova
Few days ago one of my friends asked me about the Bible and the end of the world. She asked me, if I believe in the end and in signs written in it. She said that the signs mentioned in this well known book which should have been some kind of warning for us that the end is coming are really happening now. There are still more and more murders, wars, fires, floods. Global warming is making it all even worse and it all seems that our world is really too close to its end. Even though the Bible is, as it is said, book of the books, I still don’t believe these black things happening are the signs of the apocalypse. On the other hand, with constant threats we are living with! , there is no surprise, that many people are starting to thinking about the End. Latest news about wildfire in Los Angeles are pretty scary too. One of the most known American cities – Los Angeles – is in fire for days and the flames sometimes really remind hellfire. More than 164 square miles of brush were scorched, there are still about 12,000 homes threatened and what is more, this inferno claimed already two lives (two firefighters). According to latest news Mount Wilson is in danger too. There are more than 20 television transmission towers, radio and cell phone antennas and one hundred years old Observatory. If the flames hit the mountain, cell phone service and TV and radio transmissions would be disrupted and what is more, two giant telescopes would be destroyed. But we should not paint the Devil on the wall – the fire which swept Los Angeles foothill is not the worst, not even apocalyptic. For example fire in Northeast of Sacramento destroyed 60 s! tructures over the weekend and many of them were residential h! ouses. I could go on with naming all catastrophes, but it is not my aim. The only thing I wanted to say is that although we are still more confident of coming apocalypse, in reality this all is just another shade of black…
