The Man Behind…
by Milota Sidorova

Who doesn’t know architect Daniel Liebeskind, doesn’t know the most cheerful person in the world. This man was born after the WWII in Poland to the Jewish family. Quickly repairing environment full of tragic memories was embracing him in the early childhood. Maybe that was the key factor forming this restless and always hopeful man. He became a musician – according his own words he desired to play the piano, but it was too expensive so his parents brought him an accordion. Anyway he was well gifted and his virtuoso play set him for Israeli. In this environment something even more surprisingly happened. Daniel Liebeskind without any education, became an ! architect. On the top of that he won the competition for a Jewish Museum in Berlin. Critics cheered his pure, strongly abstract, high-tech style and the space. Imagine, it is the empty space within the bottle that makes it a bottle. And it was an empty space that made the building a place to live, remember, to get every possible human emotion. As a musician he was keen of the acoustic side of his projects. The buildings are huge of surprising statistic and angles, full of space to hear and perceive the atmosphere. Right now you can be sure we’re talking about an artist blessing the thought and people above the architecture. Since then, Liebeskind got very well. According many successful people, this man was the most optimistic person they have ever met. He cheered the cooperation with even the last less important team member and never showed off his pride. He remained connected with his Jewish roots and heritage – the loss and the hope and maybe that was the r! eason why he won another commission, right there in New York. ! He proje cted as he calls it “Gardens of millennium”. The space of original World Trade Center will change into the urban complex with the streets, parks and business center. It won’t be, however just a business center. The symbols do have the strong meaning here. Apart of the business character, the upper part of needle shaped tower will consist of gardens of every kind. Like the paradise this is the flower, the sign for everyone hoping for better days. Gardens of millennium will be the highest building in NYC, with another symbol hidden inside. Its height will refer to the date when the Democracy was established. For me, student of architecture, it’s not a surprise Liebeskind won the commission, because he didn’t build a memento for himself but created a place to live for people. He offered the symbol, meaning, ideas, emotions and the power of recreation. Rising from the ashes.
