Chris Cantell Discusses US News: Dangerous blazes in California
by Petra Kamenicka

SAN FRANCISCO: A stormy weather and ideal conditions for fires have caused in several areas in California many dangerous blazes. This happened a week ago. Firefighters in Northern California battled this fires to a stalemate on Sunday and no new fire-areas emerged by Sunday morning. This development of situation might seem positive, but a forecasts for next months are not favorable. According to forecasts for California, a new thunderstorms and dry lightings are expected. Unfortunately, this thunderstorms and dry lightings will be similar to the ones, that ignited fires last week. As the U.S. Forest Service report said, this hot and dry weather will continue. A peak of fire season is traditionally in late July and August. The storms that caused this blazes were unusually intense for this time. According to Forrest Service, even fiercer storms are foretold for this summer. A hot and fiery summer is expected in Northern areas of California. A lower- than-average rainfall and a record amounts of parched vegetation are another significant factors, that contribute to negative forecasts released last week. The report of U.S. Forrest Service says, that it will take some weeks or mounts to take arisen situation under the full control. The blazes have already scorched 550 square kilometers and have destroyed about 50 buildings. State and local governments will need additional financial support to cover the costs of fighting so many fires. Some politicians are trying to help too. President Bush issued an emergency declaration for California. He also ordered to federal agencies to assist in firefighting efforts.
An air quality in some areas from Bakersfield to Redding was so wrong, that inhabitants were urged to stay indoors and to limit exposure to smoky air. In many areas, an evacuation of residents was inevitable. Some of evacuated residents were allowed to return to their homes.
