by Sandra Stoklaskova
The tragedy of World Trade Center from 11th September of 2001 afflicted the hearts of people from all nations throughout the world. It was the biggest terroristic attack in the history of United States, which craved a lot of victims.Shortly after this, Governor of New York George Pataki wrote a letter to Secretary of the Navy Gordon England. This letter contained a request that the Navy would name the USS New York on a warship involved in the War on Terror, and all of this in honor of September 11's victims. This request was, of course approved, and during this weekend the ship was also christened. On Saturday the USS New York, ship built with the scrap steel from the ruins of WTC, was christened in Avondale. This event did not forwent thousands of people, among which did not absent families, friends and acquaintances of people died in this terrorist attack. Christening was overshooting very well. "May God bless this ship and all who sail on her," said Dotty England, the sponsor of the ship, when smashing a bottle of champagne against it.This huge ship should serve as a source of strength and inspiration for the nation. "We are sending the message, that we are standing strong," said Lee Ielpi, president of the September 11th Families' Association. The ship contains 7.5 tons of steel from the site, is 684 feet long, 105 feet wide and the total weight is 25,000 ton. The vessel is designed to deliver a fully-equipped battalion of 700 Marines and 360 sailors.
