Paul Tibbets, Enola Gay bomber, dies
by Nina Gotzmannova
The World War II didn't end in 1945. As long as the last soldier, the last victim, the last eyewitness and the last general will be alive, memories on the war will be still in their blood and on their minds. One of the key persons of 1945 dies on November 1. The pilot of the first aircraft which dropped an atomic bomb, the man who pushed the button, dropped Little Boy and killed 140,000 Japanese in Hiroshima, the man who helps to end World War II, Paul Tibbets, 92, made his last flight to heaven. And with his death part of the history dies too.Paul Tibbets was born to be a soldier. His middle name was Warfield. His mother probably took a great care about him and made him a great childhood, because Tibbets wrote her name into history books. The name of his plane carried name Enola Gay, her name. In 1937 Tibbets joined the army as a flying cadet. In 1942 he already had a reputation of the best flier in the Army Air Force. Confirming the reputation, Tibbets served as a personal pilot to Dwight Eisenhower. His brilliant piloting abilities were the reason, why he was chosen to perform the most delicate operation in history & dropping the first atomic bomb. Although his act of dropping the bomb killed more than 100,000 people, he said he never regretted it and he was repeating it all his life. His reason is simple. If the attack wouldn't be done, Japanese would probably invade to United States and kill millions of people all over the world. His act was therefore perfectly acceptable.
