Natural Calamities
by Claudia Sonea

On Saturday there was a storm that hit New England and although it did not caused any injuries or deaths, three limbs were brought down and 80000 homes faced the darkness due to a black out. Until Sunday more than 17000 NStar customers had to deal with the same problem according to official statement. Caroline Allen, company's spokesperson, said that the crew is delaying because of the extensive damage to trees and electric equipment, ending with the assurance that by Monday the power will be restored to all its customers. The storm is a remnant of the hurricane Noel and affected coastal residents from Massachusetts to Maine. It struck earlier Haiti and registered 57 deaths, then 84 in the Dominican Republic; also Bahamas and Jamaica faced the hurricane that is thought to be the deadliest of the 2007 Atlantic hurricane season. According to Lt. Richard Scherbarth of the Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills Fire Department the fire of the Barnstable house was caused by a candle used due to the blackout. However no one was injured, only a cat and a dog died. In Yarmouth, Capt. Allen Bent stated a house fire on Sunday started due to the use of a fireplace. Still most of the outages took place in Cape Cod, Plymouth and Marshfield. In Maine the 5 inches of rain storm combined with 6 inches of snow in the northern end of the state led to the outage of 9000 Bangor Hydro Electric customers. Nature is still on rage and hits hard the US nation. The tropical weather has this features and the situation has worsen because of the environmental. Let's pray for all those that are in the storm's way and have to deal with situation after it passes.
