When we read daily newspapers we find there a lot of news from all world. I am always sad if I read about countries which are fighting with some disaster like hurricanes, volcano, famine, spate or wildfire. It is like in the movie but the difference is that news from papers are real and it doesn't have to finish with happy end. People from Texas can feel one of these horrors. Occupants have to fight with wildfire and try to save their lives. This wildfire burned and ravaged almost 30 square miles. People stayed without their houses and they lost a lot. It is horrible situation, everything what you owned has been burned & clothes, toys, furniture, money, house! just everything. Victims tried to save how much how was possible and during the sifting through their damaged houses, a few more blazes exploded. But some of them have happiness in calamity. For example Gary Karr is very grateful that although he lost a lot, he saved a lot too. Wind is the biggest enemy because fire can spread quicker and it can also cause that there are more parts which are plagued. All helicopters are in preparedness and all habitants who can help try to fight with it. Suddenly, in this horrible situation, people became friends, try to help each other and cooperate because they have the same aim & to overplay disaster. We can say that Texas is used to pass this catastrophe. Also one of the largest wildfires was in South Texas where 12 000 acre has been damaged.

Animals should be our friends, someone who is still in your house, wait for you to come back from work, be with you when everyone else is gone. They love us; we are something like heroes and only families for them. So that's why we should care about them, love them back and protect them. Lots of people do it like this. But there should be more. Many people don't think the same. Animals are nothing for them. After a while they are not so excited about them, no more interested. It was only a short joy for them or for their kids. They stop to care about them, what can cause even the death of the animal. In the States there is a new problem. Lots of people have problem with mortgages and paying for their houses, so they have to go away, and very often they leave their pets locked in empty houses. Sometimes they have no other choice; animals are not allowed in their new homes. I can understand that loosing home is very hard and it makes more problems, but every time they have enough time to give that animal to someone else or just bring it to special place for lonely animals. Would they leave there one of their children, because they have too many of them??? Never. So why they can't care about that animal? I think the law should be stronger for all the people who are treating animals like this. What is it about? Does it make them feel happy? Don't they have enough place on this planet?? I hope one day will people wake up and start think like a real human.

The Importance of Helmet in Rodeo by Daniela Simkova
Everyone know how dangerous sport rodeo is. Many of us are questioning why do all those people risk their lives? Because of the passion? Because of the danger during the ride, riders should wear some protective clothes. Very important thing has became a helmet. Some riders don't wear helmet, because they want to look good in their cowboy shoes, jeans, shirt and hat. But there certainly is a moment when everyone reevaluates decision whether to put helmet on or not. "I would never put one on because I wanted to look like a cowboy, with my boots, long-sleeved shirt and cowboy hat. Now I don't think I'd get on without one," said Justin Koon after skull fracture injury caused by the rodeo riding. B. J. Schumacher or J. B. Mauney are professional rodeo riders who wear their helmets. The percentage of getting hurt is too high. Rodeo riders hurt about 10 times more than football or hockey players. Former bull-riding champion Cody Lambert said: "I've had some really good friends die in this sport, but I didn't have to lose friends to understand this sport and how dangerous it is. Just because you have a helmet or vest or a pair of chaps, you can still die out there." Cody Lambert was a vitness of his friends death and this was an impuls to design a special vest which protects body. The vest is filled with foam and is required by some rodeo associations. It reduces the impact of fall or jog of a bull horn.

2008 State of the Union focuses on economy by Zuzana Zelenakova
On Monday President Bush delivered his annual State of the Union speech. He focused on troubling situation in US economy and urged Congress to approve $150 million rescue plan. "At kitchen tables across our country, there is concern about our economic future," he stated. However, some people already questioned the size of the stimulus package wondering if it is big enough to deal with the recession. On Iraq, always a main topic of his addresses to the Congress, he declared his decision to send another 30,000 troops to the fight last year to be a success. The increase has helped to restrict violence, but US troop withdrawal from the country is far away and thus the end of the conflict too. As far as the two previous goals are concerned, immigration and Social Security, Mr. Bush left those to Congress to deal with. He also threatened to veto any tax increases in his final year. "A modest speech with modest goals," David Gergen, former advisor to Reagan and Clinton administrations, called it. And indeed there is truth in that for George Bush used his previous speeches to promote big issues such as invading Iraq, developing alternative fuels or partially privatizing Social Security.

Nevada - number of foreclosures doubled in 2007 by Zuzana Moravcova
In Nevada, foreclosure filings rose 75 percent from the previous year to 2.2 million. The filings warned owners that their home was slated for auction or for repossession by the bank, or that they were in default. Last year, Nevada had the highest foreclosure rate in the nation. 3.4 percent of its households recieved foreclosure filings, which was more than three times the national average. Nevada, Florida, Michigan and California posted the highest foreclosure rates, said RealtyTrac Inc. Over 1 percent of all US households got to some stage of foreclosure process last year, up from about 0.5 percent in previous year. Before higher monthly payments kicked in, borrowers had depended on getting new loans or refinancing an adjustable mortgage. There were billions of dollars in losses at lenders and Wall Street banks, which made the lenders put the money out of reach for many borowers. Referring to adjustable-rate mortgage loans made to borrowers with poor credit, Rick Sharga, RealtyTrac's vice president of marketing, said: "Assuming nothing else bad happens economically ... we will have exhausted the bulk of the worst-performing loans by the end of June. It does appear that we're seeing a new batch of properties enter the process." He added that a late-year surge in the number of properties reporting foreclosure filings suggests that many are in the initial stages of the foreclosure process and could end up lost to foreclosure this year unless lenders or the government steps in. James Saccacio, RealtyTrac chief executive officer, said in a statement: "Some properties may have just entered the initial stage of foreclosure in 2007 and could be going through the rest of the foreclosure process in 2008 unless lender and government intervention efforts." In Nevada, many mortgages allow lenders to sell a property if an owner defaults without having to file a lawsuit. A lender begins the foreclosure process by recording a notice of default with the county recorder and mailing the notice to the borrower. A borrower or any secondary lender has 35 days from the date the default notice is recorded to pay off the default and stop the foreclosure. If the borrower has not paid off the default amount, the lender can schedule a foreclosure sale, at least three months after recording the notice of default.

Really deep freeze was registered in northern states. All thermometers showed their measurements significantly below zero level in the most extreme parts of Maine yesterday. It was stated by National Weather Service that at Van Buren that thermometers fixed 34 Fahrenheit degrees below zero, 27 degrees at Presque Isle and 26 degree at Allagash. Another weather source, Web site, reported that in several other nationalââ¬â¢s freezing areas, International Falls, Minn., measurements were made where temperature reached 16.1 degrees below zero. In spite of the fact, that the temperature increased by 14 degrees due to sun rise, it mixed with the blowing wind at the speed of 6mph that resulted in cooling off to 29 degrees below zero. In New York Oswego country the blowing cold air over Lake Ontario gave rise to moisture production of 3 feet of lake-effect snow. As a result of this, there were some consequences bringing corrosive effect, such as collapsing of the roofs at public garages in Fulton, N.Y. The roofs held the weight of 37 inches of snow. Consequently, the town proclaimed a state of emergency. These extreme colds and their potential to such similar destroys are common in the areas near by Lake Ontario. The state police in Fulton Sgt. Edwin Croucher informed that even some accidents were occasioned; no severe or fatal injuries were caused by the storm. He described the situation as "We are digging out!" This brings us the fact that the amount of snow is so enormous that it can hardly be imagined by those who experienced snow this winter only by looking at TV.

Imagine that you're in a situation that you could choose place you are going to live (and forget all the problems such as "moving and living there is little too expensive", "I would for sure die without my family and friends being around", "no way I'm changing my current job" etc. Let's use the gift of abstraction to pretend all your buddies and the job of your dreams will be there waiting for you). What place would it be? What would you choose if you could? For example, I love sun. What about California? I love gentle breeze playing with my hair, sitting on the beach, having perfect tan, enjoying sunny days, no need to wear four layers of clothes to keep me warm. Sounds like being in heaven, doesn't it? My picture of perfect place was suddenly destroyed by some important facts I forgot to involve. Storms? Mudslides? Fires? Earthquakes? Those don't fit into my idea of perfect place to live. Let's follow the sun. Florida?! Hurricanes? Well, when I'm thinking about it, I can admit that living in mountains has its magic and I always wanted to improve my skiing skills. What about moving higher? What?! Snowstorms? Avalanches? I tried to find any attractive place to live without any weather disaster waiting for a chance to show me its power. Well, I'd rather stay home without abstracting and pretending. What if being wonderful means being dangerous in some way? Like a "beauty toll" you have to pay?

A delta of Mississippi is still being violated by Ivana Bruderova
The residents of the state of Louisiana and several biology institutes and universities warn that the delta of American's longest river is being terribly destroyed and need our help. The delta was formed over the thousands of years by mudding sediments and it created it's own unique ecosystem. It was at the beginning of the last century when the Mississippi's delta was a place of wetlands, and marshes. Then this place became an oil-drilling center and thousands miles of oil canals scared the country. New information appeared about why the hurricane Katrina damaged The New Orleans so much. In the past when the administration or president was talking about this disaster they blamed global warming or the French buildings which had been built three hundreds years ago. But scientists claim, guilty are the oil companies which have been damaging the natural barriers against the hurricanes situated in Mississippi's delta. Due to their activity in this area the wetlands are drying and the whole ecosystem is violated. "I remember when I was a young boy we had camp out in the marsh", said Don Griffin one of the residents living near the delta. "The same places you used to have to go around with a pirogue and a push pole now you can go with a 25-foot outboard. There is no more marsh, which is your first barrier to defense for hurricanes." The oil companies such as Exxon Mobil Corp. denied they are guilty for the drying of wetlands and land loss. They said there are many reasons for this including unstable geology and nutrias, animals brought here in the 1930's that have been feeding at vegetation of delta. The voice of the rich oil companies is louder now, but the scientists believe their arguments and studies will persuade the politicians to make a restrictions for the oil industry in the delta of Mississippi.

If the whole history of our planet was showed as a watch, the humankind would appear five minutes to twelve. Five minutes which mean absolute turnover. Once man wore pants and realized he was ruling this world and that there were things that could easily serve his needs, there was no way back from self-destruction. Humans started changing everything around to feel comfortable, to provide with food, energies and things that made them happy. The ironic thing is, mankind is too blinded to see that these manners are suicidal. Gun is aimed right at man's head, barrel waits, trigger shakes and man instead of being afraid is proud of inventing such a sophisticated weapon. We all heard about rainforests. We all know how are these "lungs of our planet" necessary. However, nobody cares if there are any left, if they are being plundered as we need wood to build houses. From time to time we see fearsome news about oil stains that killed thousands of sea animals. Oh, moment. The man killed them while transporting oil by using old, hardly reliable tankers. We all know about draining our earth trying to extract some more to ensure plenitude of oil to fuel our cars and to heat our homes. We destroy unique natural environment and kill animal species in effort to have more space to live. Profit first, please. There is only one satisfaction. The nature is rampaging and waiting for its final revenge. Global warming is just the beginning.

In Memory of Martin Luther King by Daniela Simkova
Ebenezer Baptist Church hosted about 2,000 people that came to honor the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday. Amongst those, who came to share the legacy of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. were also the former president Bill Clinton, a presidential candidate Mike Huckabee and Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin. Martin Luther King was a great man that inspired nation to create one community. As Shirley Franklin said: "Martin aimed high, acted with faith, dreamed miracles that inspired a nation. Can we act on King's legacy without dreaming? I think not. King's legacy gives light to our hopes, permission to our aspirations and relevance to our dreams." Shirley Franklin wasn't the only one speaking about Martin Luther King with respect. Bill Clinton remarked that if Mr. King didn't focus on civil rights, the presidential race wouldn't be as diverse as it is. It came to the interference of a Baptist preacher, a Mormon, a black man, and his wife Hillary Clinton. Bill Clinton expressed his thinking: "Isn't this interesting? I mean, how cool is it? You know, we've got all these different people seeking the presidency. And guess what? It's all possible because of Martin Luther King's vision of the beloved community." Martin Luther King's day is celebrated on the third Monday of January. It has become a federal holiday in 1986 and people over the country honor his dedication to the fight over the civil rights since then.

The weather seems unforgiving with the inhabitants of the south area of the US. The National Weather Service said snow fell as much as 3 inches as far south as southwestern Mississippi, but the ground was too warm for it to accumulate. It was that area's first snowfall since 2001. Furthermore, Alabama faced a five inch snow fall and in Florida there were 2 tornadoes created by the clash between cold and warm air. Thus it is considered to be among the worst winter after that of 1993. On Sunday, from South to the Gulf Coast there was a thick snow fall and at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, and Blairsville in northeastern Georgia thermometers registered a -17 degree temperature, according to Stephen Konarik, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Peachtree City outside Atlanta. He added that no accidents took place and the roads were not slippery because snowfall stopped before sunset Saturday in most of the Atlanta metro area. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport kept all the five runaways open, while Delta Air Lines Inc. canceled about 280 flights, according to spokeswoman Betsy Talton, and spokesman Tad Hutcheson said AirTran Airways canceled about 80 and other flights were delayed by the need to deice wings. New Orleans created special shelters for the homeless for Saturday and Sunday nights. Many arrangements took place on the account of thermometers hitting record low temperatures. The weather cast for the next couple of days is not bright and sunny and the winter lets everyone know that it is here to stay. There is still plenty of time until spring and the advice is to dress warmly and take care. Surf on and enjoy.

Everyone knows there are good times and then there are bad times (and not only Led Zeppelin have heard about this old truth:-)). One day you feel absolutely invincible. You're flowering, you're doing great, both your personal and professional life satisfies you as you feel that anything you get down to will be turned into the gold by the touch of your marvelous hands. At the end of the day, you are riding high on the wave of your success. You are on a peak. However, everything's going to change. You are down on your knees with both personal and professional life going wrong. You are not that successful anymore, you are just trying to survive somehow hoping in better times coming soon. That's just life. Upside down. Sometimes you are the king ruling the world, sometimes you are just loser struggling hard to find the way out. With economy is it the same. One day everything's is OK, we have great numbers, factories are producing, shops are selling, output is growing, people can afford spending much money to buy things they really don't need. And then we have bad numbers, factories are producing less, shops are selling less, output is declining, people can't afford spending money even to buy things they really need. It's being called economic cycle. The notion that helps economists wining important awards, that's even able to unite democrats and reps and most of all is having impact on everyday's life of everyone of us.

6 snowmobilers were rescued in Colorado after 3 days missing. Jason Groen, his wife and daughter and one of his employees with wife and son were snowmobiling in southern Colorado mountains when they got lost, ran out of gas and consequently get stacked in the middle of nowhere. Fortunately there was a cabin where they were able to survive out of coldness and snowstorm outside. The area was under the avalanche warning at that time and there was no way to get there even for rescues. Groen could not find a signal for his cell phone in the cabin and it was too cold and too dangerous to go outside until Monday morning when they called and have been rescued. This is a story with happy ending. How many people are not so happy and find their end in the snow every winter? Sportsmen are crazy for adrenalin sports during the winter. Nature is so different, calm and peaceful and the power of avalanches and snow cover is like a magnet that needs to be discovered. We are looking for an adventure and forget about our safety and all the safety measures. Some people are lucky because mountain rescuers risk their lives everyday to find tourists underneath avalanche attack or in the woods where they lost their orientation. We need to realize that this is not a standard for our lives. We need to be careful and keep ourselves protected and safe because once we can lose even a cell phone we are carrying everywhere with us.

Many times during our long history weather determined the way of our lives and in the times of climate changes nature still more and more assigns happening in the world. One of the most violent storms on Earth are tornadoes. Tornado, as it defines The National Weather Service, is violently rotating column of air, which is at the same time in contact with the ground. Every tornado rises from a thunderstorm, and then if also other basic conditions are right, then this thunderstorm changes into the tornado. In the US there is the most endangered area from Texas to Nebraska, but tornadoes can occur also in other parts of US & it all depends on conditions mentioned higher. In January 2008 an enormous number of tornadoes hit the area of Missouri, Tennessee, Kentucky, some of them were also confirmed in Wisconsin, Arkansas, Illinois and other states. Tornado which hit Appleton totally damaged house and killed one man, while his wife was injured. Three other people were almost killed by tornado while they were sitting in their truck which started spinning because of the strong winds of tornado. In other state & Indiana 2 children died when the car which was driving by their mother stalled on a flooded road. I mention only few examples what tornado can cause. In most cases this violent storms have the same results & loss of lives, damaged houses, cars, trees and roads, and what is worse they have the biggest impact on economy. Some of these impacts does not have to happen if people know what to do when the tornado hits their area. The first step is to find some safe shelter, and do it as soon as possible & best before the tornado comes. Another important thing are emergency supplies & always have them near. If tornado already hit our area and we do not have a time to run away we should go to our shelter which should be basement, storm cellar or some other lowest level of building. Then we should try to protect ourselves using anything what is near like furniture but also use our hands to protect head and neck. There is lot of things which a man in danger can do to protect himself & but the easiest way how to save a life is to know what to do. And in these days characterized by technology, Internet connection and daily news it should not be a problem.

Nature testing our patience and ability to exist without technologies by Martina Harvanova
Strong storms, floods, snowing, canal ruptures followed by freezing weather. That's how the current situation in some southwestern states of US looks like. Nevada is affected by levee break, long-lasting storms hit Californian towns and furthermore in some parts avalanches are being expected. Crazy weather conditions caused a few deaths as well. Near L.A. a woman was killed after her truck was swept into a flood channel. Many people were rescued from atop homes. The sound of helicopter can be noticed constantly. What' s even worse, the stormed ripped down almost 500 miles of power lines deteriorating the case much more. Natural disasters are always a part of our weather, our climate. No matter what century, what nation, they sometimes occur and we tend to get powerless despite all the technologies we developed. Is there a way we can avoid them and keep us safe? Nowadays, nothing like that exists. From other point of view, the more developed our nations are, the more hazardous such situations become. Ten centuries ago, existence of electricity wasn't even the craziest dream and in spite of that humans enjoyed the way they were living. The acts of nature belonged to threats of life, to cases than happen time to time. Today, the character of our life differs. Technologies affect our everyday aspects. Without electricity we have serious difficulties to survive. Let's face it: our own inventions obstruct the way of life. The weather forecasts aren't reporting any big improvement in the next days. Americans will need to learn how to survive on their own in the following moments. Scientists steadily endeavor to come up with the newest inventions. A challenging suggestion for them should be an invention of the method how to survive without technologies.

After the event of 11 September al-Qaida members were hunted by all the secret agencies in America and terrorists are treated harshly at the interrogation. It is a matter widely known and the media approached it frequently. Still, now the Congress is dealing with an older event regarding the harsh interrogation of two al-Qaida suspects in 2002 by the CIA and not because it is really interested in what happened to the terrorists, but because the tapes documenting the investigation were destroyed in 2005. The House Intelligence Committee launched an entire trial of the event and among the first ones that received a subpoena on Thursday was Jose Rodriguez, the former CIA head of the CIA's National Clandestine Service who directed that secret interrogation videotapes to be destroyed. The hearing on 16 January is more a formality due to the fact that Rodriguez is ready to tell the truth or at least what he thinks is the truth; however, his attorney, Robert Bennett, who also once represented President Clinton, two former secretaries of defense and New York Times reporter Judith Miller, said that it is better to issue a subpoena. Some of the questions that the House Intelligence Committee has are: who authorized the tapes' destruction; who in the CIA, Justice Department and White House knew about it and when; and why Congress was not fully informed. And the most important question remains what was on the tape so compromising that it had to be destroyed. For all this to find an answer, the CIA opened files to congressional investigators Thursday, inviting them to the agency's Virginia headquarters to begin reviewing documents and records related to the videotapes. Bush assured in repeatedly occasions that he first found out about the destruction earlier this month CIA Director Michael Hayden briefed him. Committee Chairman Silvestre Reyes is leading the investigation and on his list of witness that is still unfinished there are names like Alberto Gonzales, who served as White House counsel and then attorney general, who advised against the destruction. Another one is John Bellinger, then a lawyer at the National Security Council, who also came against the destruction. Both Gonzales and Bellinger refused to make any comments, but the fact that White House recommended in 2003 that the tapes should not be destroyed raises the question who then ordered it. Reyes will start the investigation on 16 January with testimony from Rodriguez and acting CIA general counsel John Rizzo, who received CIA approval for the testifying. Furthermore there is also the request for CIA attorneys Steve Hermes, Robert Eatinger, Elizabeth Vogt and John McPherson, former CIA directors Porter Goss and George Tenet, former deputy director of operations, James L. Pavitt and former general counsel Scott Muller to testify before the committee. Besides witness, Reyes is using also documents like a May 2004 memo Muller wrote recording details of a meeting with White House officials. The meeting took place right after the scandal with the unfolding Abu Ghraib prison abuse and the White House pleaded against the destruction. Reyes and the committee's top Republican, Peter Hoekstra of Michigan, requested for all documents, cables and records regarding the taping of detainee interrogations to be delivered and also demanded for testimony from Rizzo and Rodriguez at a planned December 18 hearing, but the CIA showed they are not so willing to cooperate and stalled the fulfilling of the request. The matter might become a criminal case and the Justice Department was called in a federal judge courtroom Friday to determine whether the destruction of the tapes violated a court order to preserve evidence about detainees. The outcome of the story is pending until after January, so stay connected.
