The Importance of Helmet in Rodeo
by Daniela Simkova
Everyone know how dangerous sport rodeo is. Many of us are questioning why do all those people risk their lives? Because of the passion? Because of the danger during the ride, riders should wear some protective clothes. Very important thing has became a helmet. Some riders don't wear helmet, because they want to look good in their cowboy shoes, jeans, shirt and hat. But there certainly is a moment when everyone reevaluates decision whether to put helmet on or not. "I would never put one on because I wanted to look like a cowboy, with my boots, long-sleeved shirt and cowboy hat. Now I don't think I'd get on without one," said Justin Koon after skull fracture injury caused by the rodeo riding. B. J. Schumacher or J. B. Mauney are professional rodeo riders who wear their helmets. The percentage of getting hurt is too high. Rodeo riders hurt about 10 times more than football or hockey players. Former bull-riding champion Cody Lambert said: "I've had some really good friends die in this sport, but I didn't have to lose friends to understand this sport and how dangerous it is. Just because you have a helmet or vest or a pair of chaps, you can still die out there." Cody Lambert was a vitness of his friends death and this was an impuls to design a special vest which protects body. The vest is filled with foam and is required by some rodeo associations. It reduces the impact of fall or jog of a bull horn.
