The glory that USA once has seems to fade away. No longer the leader that it used to be, the country nowadays struggles to keep up with the rest of the countries and their development. After the recession was officially acknowledged, many Americans regarded the matter as a joke, but gradually they started to realize of the actual estate of a country that lost most of its economic and military strength. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration, also known as NASA, is famous for the high technology, for the first flight to the Moon, for the Earth Observing System, for the exploration of bodies throug! hout the Solar System. Its glory was built with public funds and until now the investment didn’t provide any economical profits, which thus added to the national debt. Nonetheless, this irrational spending would be justified considering that it was for the benefit of the country, to keep up with other countries like Russia or Japan. By supporting NASA and its projects, US government was in fact struggling to maintain the status gained in time, its economic and military advantage. Nowadays, the agency faces the threat to remain without the necessary funding from the White House due the fact that more pressing matters are to be solved like unemployment rate. Forgetting about security and dignity, NASA launched a campaign with the purpose of getting support from the public through social sites and more recently through a contest that gave Twitter’s users the chance to be in a space shuttle. 21 lucky persons were chosen, not only fr! om US, but also from other countries. Cheers to them. ! You can imagine how low an institution could get just by looking at NASA and remembering that 20 years ago you couldn’t even dream to enter the base. US was hit hard by the recession and the question that remains is: what’s next?
