Bear attacked a woman in California by Petra Kamenicka

A woman in California was attacked by bear when she was on a daily walk with her two dogs. She was severely injured, her dogs escaped the attack, and one of them has minor injuries. The dog probably tried to defend her.
Despite her serious wounds, especially on her face and head, she managed to drive herself to a fire station, where she asked for help. Afterwards, she was airlifted to UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles. Allena Hensen, 57, underwent on Tuesday 10 hours taking surgery. The reasons for this surgery were her serious cuts on face and head, but now she is fine and she is expected to recover.
The attack happened in the Piute area, near the community of Caliente, about 85 miles north form Los Angeles.
Kevin Brennan, a wildfire biologist in the California Department of Fish and Game said on a news conference, that wildfire trackers, together with tracking hounds tried on Wednesday to haunt this bear. One dog was minor injured, probably by some animal. The bear is expected to remain in the area, where the attack took a place. The aim of wildfire trackers is catching the animal. As Brennan announced on the news conference: ,,Right now, there’s a trap set. And we’re just waiting.” It can take hours or maybe week to capture the bear.
Specialists are now speculating what caused this attack. One explanation is that burning areas pushed this bear into a new territory. And he was defending his new territory. Or, maybe her dogs provoked the bear. Hensen have not talked to investigators yet, so the reason remains still unclear.
