Flooded Mississippi is about to reach its maximum this week. Till this day, the rising danger has caused at least $1,5 billion damage in overpowered millions acres of agricultural area, inundated villages and road system. States Iowa, Illinois and Missouri are facing the worst scenario, that is about to overcome historical floods from 1993. Most of their levees are endangered by extremely strong stream of the river and one, situated near the city of Gulfport has broken overnight. Helicopters, boats and all terrain vehicles are operating all over the country. The highest priority is to fixate remaining levees by sandbags. Then to evacuate inhabitants. According the reports, not solitary farms nor whole communities are spared.Despite the current damages, officials suggest, that the consequences could have been even worse, unless the massive innovation of the land in 1993. Flooded area has been bought out and changed into natural park. Almost 9,000 homeowners moved into further, safer cities. However, there are still some, who have remained. The ones, who strikes the water element once again. That is also the story of Elkport, the city, that has disappeared from the map's surface long time ago. Government paid almost $1.6 million to engross all 80 real-estates in the village before knocking it down. Some has moved to the twin city on the other coast of the river, some have disappeared so.Floods, threatening American middle West since the end of May, have caused unbelievable increases of corn, wheat, soya and meat prices. Investors fear that one of the most fertile U.S. Regions will impact the yield in catastrophic way. The fact is, that almost 5 million acres of fields currently sleep underwater.Even President Bush has promised the financial supply to befallen region. However, he has only gained tough Democratic critics, pointing on bleeding economy and jerking national debt.
