Sen. Kennedy successfully underwent brain surgery
by Barbora Misakova

Human wealth is probably the only thing we cannot buy for money. And even if we have a lot of them it will not guarantee us we will stay wealthy or even alive. Of course we live in the century of incredible possibilities – lot of pharmaceuticals, various types of medical instruments etc. All of them should help us to fight against illnesses and health problems. After all there is incredible number of people suffering from various incurable or hardly curable diseases. One of them is cancer. Cancer is also called a killer of humankind and I would say this label just suits to it. When you just imagine how many people already died on cancer and how dangerous it is because of its universality – cancer of stomach, kidneys, tumors just can appear anywhere, even on the brain. These days is probably the most known and watched case of Sen. Edward M. Kennedy who had cancerous brain tumor. His name was declined with very risky brain surgery which this 76-year-old Massachusetts Democrat underwent. Operation was performed by Dr. Allan Friedman who thinks that operation was successful. Now Sen. Kennedy will have to undergo chemotherapy and radiation just to to prevent another tumor growing. Even though we don't have exact information about Kennedy's type of tumor, according to one cancer specialist it might be a glioblastoma multiforme, what is a deadly type of tumor. Sen. Kennedy underwent this 3 ½ hours risky surgery which could harm healthy brain tissue which governs movement and speech. As doctors said Sen. Kennedy was awake for much of the surgery and in the following days he will take drugs to prevent brain swelling. After completed treatment Sen. Kennedy would like to go back to the Senate and do everything to “help elect Barack Obama as our next president.” Even though Sen. Kennedy underwent the most risky part of his treatment there is still possibility that cancer will come back. As said Dr. Friedman now the only thing we can do is just hope and pray for his “uneventful and robust recovery”.
