Chris Cantell Discusses US News: Christmas movies

This holiday season the traditionalists are going to enjoy some of the good old movies with thematic like: Christmas carol, Black Christmas, All I want for Christmas, Every day except Christmas, Heidi, Guess who's coming for Christmas?, Home for Christmas, The Home alone series, etc. But the most memorable movie for Christmas that TV programs all over the world broadcast it for this special holiday is It's a Wonderful Life featuring Jimmy Hendrix. On the other hand, the new generation is going to settle for something a little bit more different, bloodier. Slate, daily magazine on the Web founded in 1996, has prepared a list for the non-conventional type of viewers with movies that fall into two categories: Christmas movies that never quite made it into the canon, and films that aren't Christmas movies, but are set during the holiday and evoke it every bit as well as the old standbys. On this list there are included movies like Die Hard featuring Bruce Willis that is related to Christmas only by the fact that the entire action between the good character and the villains takes place on Christmas Eve. Another film related to the holiday that never had the chance to see the big screen, is Yogi's First Christmas doesn't deserve the obscure fate of Hong Kong Phooey. The list continues with Douglas Sirk's romantic melodrama All That Heaven Allows (1954) with the saddest Christmas scene in cinema history; The Ice Harvest with John Cusack; The thin man with William Powell; Silent Night, Deadly Night 3: Better Watch out! that presents a bad Santa Claus and so on and so forth. Now that you have from where to take your pick, stop wasting time; book the tickets before they run out. Enjoy with your loved ones a white and beautiful Christmas at a cinema and at a hot chocolate cup, because it is no better time to spend time with them. Merry Christmas!
