Winter is still here
by Claudia Sonea

The weather seems unforgiving with the inhabitants of the south area of the US. The National Weather Service said snow fell as much as 3 inches as far south as southwestern Mississippi, but the ground was too warm for it to accumulate. It was that area's first snowfall since 2001. Furthermore, Alabama faced a five inch snow fall and in Florida there were 2 tornadoes created by the clash between cold and warm air. Thus it is considered to be among the worst winter after that of 1993. On Sunday, from South to the Gulf Coast there was a thick snow fall and at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, and Blairsville in northeastern Georgia thermometers registered a -17 degree temperature, according to Stephen Konarik, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Peachtree City outside Atlanta. He added that no accidents took place and the roads were not slippery because snowfall stopped before sunset Saturday in most of the Atlanta metro area. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport kept all the five runaways open, while Delta Air Lines Inc. canceled about 280 flights, according to spokeswoman Betsy Talton, and spokesman Tad Hutcheson said AirTran Airways canceled about 80 and other flights were delayed by the need to deice wings. New Orleans created special shelters for the homeless for Saturday and Sunday nights. Many arrangements took place on the account of thermometers hitting record low temperatures. The weather cast for the next couple of days is not bright and sunny and the winter lets everyone know that it is here to stay. There is still plenty of time until spring and the advice is to dress warmly and take care. Surf on and enjoy.
