“How long will it take?” many Americans must ask. People living in oil affected area near Gulf of Mexico must be not only tired but also beside oneself with anger. Few days ago British Petroleum came with an idea how the leaking oil could be stopped and the new light of hope appeared. But as BP’s officials informed, it was not a reason for celebration as 48-hour test was needed. Now, as it seems, the test went wrong: a new protective cap installed last week on the broken oil well is leaking. In spite of that the federal government allowed British Petroleum to keep the cap shut tight on its damaged Gulf of Mexico oil well for another day, what had to cause ! another wave of disappointment. As Thad Allen, the Obama administration’s point man for the spill, said government scientists had gotten answers they wanted about how British Petroleum is monitoring the seabed around mile-deep well, but when on late Sunday a seep was detected near the ruptured oil well a sharply worded letter was sent to British Petroleum to step up monitoring the ocean floor. British Petroleum’s spokesman Mark Salt only said: “we continue to work very closely with all government scientists on this.” But is that enough? Hardly is. But according to White House adviser, Carol Browner, there is nothing else they could do now. As he said: “Clearly we want this to end. But we do not want to enter into a situation where we have uncontrolled leaks all over the Gulf floor.” So there is nothing what Americans can do, only wait and hope, the situation will be better soon!
