General Petraeus to replace McChrystal in Afghanistan by Milota Sidorova

Strange is the media reality. One could say – more than versatile. That rules twice as more in the case of political reality. I adress this comment to the case of the. U.S. General Stanley McChrystal who spent his last years ruling American and NATO troops in Afghanistan. He was described as the most important, irreplaceable man of knowledge and war experiences. This turned out to be both media and political reality. Rollingstone magazine tuned out to be the last stop on McChrystal career. General openly blamed U.S. government and President for the war and war waste that have become the constant in Afghanistan. Although Rollingstone doesn't usually make political inte! rviews, this seemed to be fatal. McChrystal was immediately called off duty, travelled into the White House, apologized for his “comments” and one “irreplaceable” General could only wached General David Petraeus taking his position in Afghanistan. Petraeus made his public debut last Saturday as a commander with the power over 140,000 US and NATO troops. Media keep reporting he has been welcomed change, even by local officials like Afghan President Hamid Karzai.Some analysts suggest Petraeus should make bright and fierce start, since General switch off proved to be a refreshment for Taliban forces. In fact, Petraeus arrival to the country has been marked by US and NATO soldiers killing. His duty will be to keep peace in Marjah district, in southern Helmand province. McChrystal launched a massive operation there in February but didn't succeed. He also postponed several actions in Kandahar province to September. Although President Obama along with Petr! aeus suggested that the commander switch doesn't mean the swit! ch in th e strategy, General hinted there would be some tweaks.
