South Texas begins cleanup after Hurricane Dolly by Paulina Neshybova

On Thursday a new Hurricane Dolly was destroying Texas people. The biggest danger left by Dolly were the downed power lines. It has already killed one man, therefore the officials from South Texas warned people not to go out and be carefull.
The storm was bad, but after the sky was dry again, people noticed, that it didn´t take many lives. They were picking up pieces from their homes and bussinesses which were destroyed by the storm, and now they have problmes with floods in the streets, carrying their belongings in whatever they had found.
The storm itself, called Hurricane Dolly was blowing about 35 mph and the biggest blow was about 5 p.m. The damage power is connected also with cotton fields which were expected to be harvested. In Texas Rio Grande Valley about 92 000 acres of cotton were so damaged by the heavy rains and winds, that they could not be harvested any more.
When Dolly reached the ashore of South Padre, it changed her direction to the north which surprised quite much the residents. The storm brought about 100 mph winds, bot fortunately there were no serious injuries.
The damages, however, were not so bad as expected. Some fields were inundated with water and some areas, too, so the traffic could not move as before., also many people were still without power. Many people were trying to help each other as much as they could, for example by lending their boats or warning people against burning electric lines. Authorities rescued many people, about 30 families from high water.
It´s not surprising this hurricane, as it is the time of storms – mainly August and September and up till now they have had four storms with names like Dolly or Humberto.
