These are the effects of 3 tornadoes that ripped through Virginia on Monday and during 4 hours destroyed everything that was in their way. Tornadoes are labeled as the nature` s most violent storms, that occur without any warning sign at anytime and anyplace in the US. Every year an average number of 800 twisters travel across the US causing about 80 deaths and over 1500 injuries. Most tornadoes in Virginia indeed occur from April to October between 3pm and 9pm. Heating of air near the ground and moisture in the low level of atmosphere are the most favorable conditions for thunderstorms. The stormy spring weather can easily result in a twister by creating a rapidly-spinning funnel of clouds with destructive power.There in an average number of 7 tornadoes per year documented in Virginia. The last most fatal tornado outbreak – 29 twisters recorded, touched down in August, 1993 and caused 4 deaths and 238 injuries. It is the unique geographical features of the USA, that makes the probability of tornado breakout so high. Without any mountain chain there is no barrier to Gulf moisture coming from ocean and creating great conditions for thunderstorms. Americans have only one possibility to prevent damages and injuries, be prepared anytime and anywhere. Paying attention to the weather advisories is the first step to reduce the destructive effects of tornadoes. In case of emergency, seeking a stable and low shelter, avoiding windows and open buildings and protecting your head with hands could save your life.
