The capricious and unpredictable power
by Martina Harvanova

It is used to be claimed that people will destroy the human race themselves, as the evolution of technologies, weapons production and pollution are spreading in a larger scale nowadays. No matter how the assumptions sound like, the only factor that can cause a serious and irreparable damage to us is the same factor that as well enriches our lives the most. The power of nature hasn't been yet copied or replaced by anything. When the tsunami hit Thailand and contiguous areas more than 3 years ago, the worldwide public was shocked. No clear predicts, no intense pressure on some resolute arrangements, no common warning. The nature is just too capricious, it behaves on basis of a sudden decision. Any weapons, technologies or human-induced power couldn't help to divert the potential moves taken by earthquakes, avalanches, tsunamis destroying storms.Unfortunately, another strike of the nature occurred recently, this time the disaster chose South and Midwest of the United States. Tornadoes were accompanied by severe weather, freezing rains, snow and flooding causing a number of injuries. The fatal consequences were reported in Alabama, where about 9, 000 homes remained without electricity and furthermore, the news are still monitoring the areas of toppled trees, damage of structures, numerous crashes and continuous snowstorms. This year's tornado outbreak already killed more than 50 people and the future forecasts don't look very flattering, too. Closed libraries, churches and shopping malls just confirm that there isn't anything more powerful than nature. The only way how to learn to handle the possible natural threat is to be prepared something like this can happen anytime and to anyone. Tangible stuff may disappear even faster than is comes to us.
