Hiding behind the back of God! by Barbora Misakova

I believe in God, even though I don’t believe in church anymore. I know that people can take some “god matters” sometimes too seriously and I usually try to understand it, but some of these things really make me sick and angry. The leader of an American group, Laura Silsby, who was convicted by a judge for arranging illegal travel of 33 children out of Haiti after the January earthquake, was freed. I am totally O.K. with the fact she was freed, but calling the whole investigating process as the ordeal is too much for me! This 40-year-old businesswoman had courage to call it “ordeal” and instead of thinking why did she get to this situation like! this, she praised a God by saying “God has been there with me every single second. He has given me strength and peace throughout every moment of this trial.” I don’t have to be missionary helping orphans nor 40-year-old businesswoman (who is expected to know the law at least a bit) to know that taking child or children from one country to another without informing authorities of the country and proper papers will be understood as illegal activity. Silsby and other members of the church group insisted they had only come to Haiti to help. But hiding activities like this under, in many cases, pretended altruism, will never apologize activities themselves. Silsby who had been in custody since January 29 deserves even bigger punishment – just for her naivety and stupidity. What was she thinking? That God will protect her even when she is breaking secular law? People like her with their certainty that nothing bad will happen to them just because they serv! e to God, simply makes me mad. I will pray to God not to allow! her to help orphans like she did in Haiti again.
